The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office said it sent the wrong Amanda Garcia to a mental health facility last month.

According to BCSO, an inmate named Amanda Garcia, who was arrested on DWI charges, was mistakenly admitted to a mental health facility instead of an inmate with the same name. BCSO said releasing officers and booking supervisors made the error.

BCSO said the staff learned about the mishap around 1 p.m. on Aug. 31 and transported the Amanda Garcia with DWI charges back to the Adult Detention Center.

That same day, at around 5 p.m., the right Amanda Garcia was released to the mental health facility.

BCSO Internal Affairs has initiated an administrative investigation into this incident and that disciplinary action for the staff who were involved in this incident is forthcoming.

It is unclear when the processing error occurred.

This is not the first processing error by the county jail this year. In July, an inmate was mistakingly released for an hour and another was released before he could be charged for a parole violation because of an improperly entered birthdate.
